History of the formation of the famous tool brand FESTOOL from Germany

Early stage (1925-1950):
The company was founded in Esslingen, Germany, with the initial goal of manufacturing woodworking tools. In 1927, Festool introduced the world's first portable band saw , marking a major step forward in the mechanization of manual tools. The product quickly became popular due to its convenience and efficiency. In 1933, the company changed its name to FESTO (a combination of "Fezer" and "Stoll"), laying the foundation for today's brand.
During this period, FESTO focused on developing specialized hand tools, mainly for carpenters and related industries. However, after World War II, the company faced many difficulties due to the aftermath of the war, but still maintained its operations thanks to perseverance and innovation.
Great Development (1950-2000):
In 1951, FESTO launched the world's first orbital sander , a revolutionary invention that increased productivity and precision in surface finishing work. This was the basis for Festool's reputation in the field of high-quality power tools.
In 1976, the company introduced the track saw system , most notably the TS 55. This invention changed the way craftsmen cut wood, bringing near-absolute precision and superior mobility. This was also the time when Festool began to shape the brand with the philosophy of “tool ecosystem” – products designed to work together, from machines to accessories such as Systainer boxes or dust extraction systems.
In 2000, FESTO split into two separate divisions: Festo AG & Co. KG focused on industrial automation (pneumatic and electrical), while Festool (formally Festool GmbH) continued to develop power tools. This split allowed Festool to focus exclusively on the professional tool market.
Modern period (2000-present):
After becoming an independent company, Festool accelerated technological innovation and expanded its global market. Products such as the Rotex sander, Domino mortise and tenon jointer, and CTL dust extraction system became iconic for their ergonomic design, high durability, and outstanding performance.
Festool is also a pioneer in integrating cordless technology with powerful battery-powered machines using brushless motors (EC-TEC). Today, Festool is owned by TTS Tooltechnic Systems , a German family-owned group, and headquartered in Wendlingen.
